According to an official from PTA, there is an increase of about 34% of cellular tele-density in Balochistan as compared to that of 2002, when it was about 0.17%. Chairman PTA, Dr. Muhammad Yasin said that there’s a sudden growth in total tele-density from 28.6% in 2008 to 36.86% in May 2010. He also mentioned an increase of 600% mobile phone users.
There were about 13000 mobile users in Balochistan in 2002. And in May, 2010 there are about 2.8 million users. He further added that there’s a number of new wireless local loop (WLL) users in Balochistan. There’s about 1,09,079 WLL subscribers and 98,511 local loop subscriber in Balochistan in March, 2010. PTA chairman said that optical fiber is laid down from Balochistan to Iran and Afghanistan with main purpose of providing basic telecom facilities to the local population.
